Originally drawn to the piano, Johnna's early years in a military family with frequent moves led her to the guitar as a more portable choice, quickly igniting a passion. Her musical journey has embraced a diverse span of genres, including Classical, Jazz, Blues, Popular, Country, Songwriting, Brazilian, and other Latin styles.
After earning a B.A. in music from Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.M. from East Carolina University, Johnna relocated to Atlanta. Throughout her career, she has performed in numerous musicals, worked as a studio musician, scored indie films, and produced her own recordings. Currently, she regularly performs throughout the Southeast, maintains an active teaching schedule, works within the Atlanta film industry, and serves as a lead executive board member for the Atlanta Federation of Musicians Local 148-462.
Teaching both children and adults, Johnna's guitar students have ranged from beginner music enthusiasts and novice players to budding artists and professionals seeking new ideas. Covering a range of styles, many of her students have performed in recitals, musicals, ensembles, bands, and competitions. Intermediate and advanced pupils have successfully created EPs and CDs, performed for American Idol, participated in music festivals, and secured college admission through successful auditions.
